Anqi Ni, born in Shandong, China, is a violinmaker based in Cremona, Italy. In 2019 she established her workshop “Laboratorio Violintecture” at the historical center of Cremona. She concentrates on constructing modern bowed instruments: violin, viola and cello.

She graduated from Academia Cremonensis with the guidance of Maestro Giovanni Colonna, by whom she is invited back in 2021 to join Academia faculty as a teacher. She finds teaching a great resource of inspiration and energy for her parallel construction.

She attended masterclass held by Maestro Carlos Arcieri in September 2018 at Accademia Perosi in Biella, Piedmont. Later in the same year, she began further studies with Maestro Gregg Alf, and since April 2019, she became a collaborative luthier in Alf Studios in Venice.

Before becoming a violinmaker, Anqi had a six-year of training in Architecture. However, it is the passion for music and inclination in visual art that finally leads her to violin making. Architecture inspired her to bring multiple points of view into creating her instruments and seeking philosophical references in construction: hence the name “Violintecture” for her workshop. She believes that in the art of violin making, as in Architecture, the ultimate goal is to seek harmony among one’s sense of the world and existence – and there is where Truth and Beauty stand.
