Pierre Nehr was born in 1978 in Aix-en-Provence, South of France.

In 1994, he spent days watching his brother Jean-Pascal Nehr, “Meilleur Ouvrier de France”, working. The smell of wood, the precision and the quality requirement of the work led him, little by little, to fall in love with this art.

In 1995, after having spent a training in Stéphane Muller workshop in Toulouse, his choice was confirmed and he began an apprenticeship with his brother in Marseille.
After 3 years of learning in the highest french tradition, he successfully passed the final exam of apprenticeship in Mirecourt, fief of the French bow and violin making.

Two years later, in the year 2000, he moved to Paris to be the only bowmaker in Gilles Chancereul workshop.

In 2004, he opened his own workshop in Paris.

In 2008, he won a “certificate of merit” with a violon bow at the International competition of the Violin Society of America, United States.

In 2010, his work is rewarded by a gold medal for a cello bow and a bronze medal for a violin bow at the International competition of Mittenwald, Germany.

In 2011, it is with an viola bow that he reached the 3rd place at the Etienne Vatelot competition in Paris.In the highest French tradition his bows are exclusively hand made.Always carefuly listening to the musicians requirements, he attaches great value to the selection of Pernambouc’s wood (Brazil).

His style gets its inspiration in the greatest masters of the French bowmaking such as D. Peccatte, E. Pajeot, FX. Tourte…
