From childhood he was fascinated by the violin music, but only started taking violin lessons at the age of 17 at the Music School of Music-Dordrecht.
Due to its ever-increasing interest in the construction of the violin and reading many books about it, he went looking for training to become a violin maker.
On May 1, 1965, he joined as an apprentice violin maker at the Hague master violin maker Willem Bouman. There he learned the building and repairing stringed instruments.
In september 1967 he left as guest student at Mittenwald, southern Germany, the resident famed violin making school, where he continued the rest of his training.
