Date:2017-04-07 4:27 pm

Warren Ellison has been making fine violin and Viola da Gamba family instruments for over 25 years. He learned the craft under the tutelage of master Tschu Ho Lee and instructor Brian Derber at the Chicago School of Violin Making in the 1980’s. After graduating from CSVM he moved to Vermont to work at the Tourin Musica with Peter Tourin and Harry Grabenstein. There he gained an appreciation for the world of early music and spent several years building English, French, and German style viols da gamba.

For the last decade Warren Ellison has been building modern and baroque violins, violas and cellos with an occasional gamba or other stringed instrument thrown in for good measure. All instruments are of professional quality and hand made one at a time. Only working alone, Warren Ellison currently builds from six to eight instruments per year that incorporate the best qualities of style, design and technique. A strong background in chemistry and the physical sciences has aided in the experimentation and refinement of lustrous and dynamic varnishes using natural and traditional materials.
