Born into a musical family, Chunyee Lu, began the study of violin at six years of age, first under his father, a violinist of Shanghai Philharmonic. Later under Professor Li Ke Chiang, a professor of violin at the Shanghai Conservatory.
When he was young, Chunyee was also involved in other areas of the fine arts, such as sculpture and oil painting, and have published many works.
In 1980’s, he came to the United States to pursue his greatest passion — violin making and fine instruments restoration. After graduation from Chicago School of Violin Making, Chunyee worked as the primary restoration expert for Kagan & Gaines. Later he became the Head of Restoration in William Harrison Lee Company, mainly working on fine instruments restoration and instruments making quality control. Since 2001 he became the owner of Guadagnini Violin Shop in downtown Chicago.
