I was born in 1979 in East Berlin and started to play the violin at the age of seven. Four years later I qualified for the Young Musicians’ Grant, which prepared talented young musicians for a musical career, offering free supplementary lessons in violin, piano and orchestral playing as well as extended musical theory lessons. I won second prize twice in the well known competition for young musicians ‘Jugend Musiziert’. At the age of twelve I entered the Special School of Music ‘G.-F. Handel’ in Berlin, graduating with an A-Level in Music with distinction.
I was born in 1965 in the small town of Anklam, Germany, near the Baltic Sea coast. My father had a workshop in his garage and we spent many days of my childhood working together on engines and with wood. I soon built my own workshop in the cellar and spent my time hidden away carving and turning wood. Those days saw the birth of my two passions- engineering and wood working, which have accompanied me throughout my life and influenced my professional career later on.
