Violin making was started by Frank Doyle in Westport county Mayo in 1890 when he was a station master there, as there were so few locomotives at the time it enabled him to carry out his favourite passtime of making Violins, Three of his sons took up the hobby in 1922 and carried it on until i took over in 1976 making a few per year, however i went through all the bowed instruments making double bass, electric versions and Gambas, i also make 5 string and multi string viola damore to order.
