Violin made by one of the over forty members of the HOPF family in Klingenthal who dedicated themselves to violin making. It should be from before 1887 as that year is engraved at the bottom of the bottom. The violin, which has its original varnish, is fitted with an old type of neck attachment, the one sometimes called ‘Spanish’. The tuning screws also appear to be original and are made of black-stained hardwood (boxwood?). The violin has a repaired crack in the lid to the right of the string holder and some damage from use in the lacquer, but is otherwise completely flawless. A violin with a lot of character and a joy to the ear!
