Schranz Geigenbau GmbH is a family-owned company based in Thun and has been established by the individual company Daniel Schranz Geigenbaumeister. For more than 30 years, we have been the starting point for the expert supervision of their string instruments in Thun and the surrounding area.
In 1983, Daniel Schranz founded his own violin making workshop in the attic of a house in the old town of Thun. Before that, he had headed the violin making department in a well-known music shop in Bern for several years, acquiring the necessary skills for self-employment. Professional and family life initially took place in the 4-room apartment. Since word quickly got around that Thun now has its own master violin maker, more space was soon needed and an apartment below was rented. The range was constantly expanded, recorders, Orff instruments and guitars were added. And soon this studio became too small.
A long-term solution was found with the move to Pestalozzistrasse 24. This business was expanded in several phases and adapted to the needs. A number of employees shaped what happened and were part of the family.
The daughter Anna Barbara Schranz has been working in the company for several years. What first started as a part-time job alongside my music studies has steadily expanded over the years. In the meantime she has decided to continue the business after her father’s upcoming retirement. Daniel Schranz will continue to work actively in the business even after “retirement”, but will again concentrate more on the craft and will gradually hand over the administrative tasks to his daughter. An ideal combination, as the specialist knowledge acquired over the years is retained.
