Baumgartner has been a well known name in violin making circles for more than 80 years. Fritz Baumgartner senior opened his business in Basel in 1920 and was later succeeded by his son, Fritz Baumgartner junior, who in turn initiated his own two sons, Roland and Michael Baumgartner, in the art of violin making.

The name Baumgartner has been a household name in the world of stringed instruments for over 100 years. The grandfather Fritz Baumgartner senior founded his own business in Basel in 1920, followed in the second generation by Fritz Baumgartner junior, who trained his sons Roland and Michael Baumgartner to be violin makers.
