Sibylle Ruppert grew up with string music and learned the basics of violin making in a three year course at the Welsh School of Instrument Making and Repair / Abertridwr. The young staff and the small group of international students made for an animated learning climate. Visitors, excursions and the final assessment by Wolf Saunders and Charles Beare connected the small school to the reality of the craft and the art.
Sibylle spent the following 4 years working with Geigenbauer Gerriet Groth of Wiesbaden and Martin Koch Loebner of Tuebingen.
Sibylle emigrated with her Canadian husband, violin maker Gregory Walke. In 1988, they set up shop in Paisley, Ontario.
